Broken Bones

It looks like we’ll have to put the Shane Vereen era on hold for a few weeks.  Does this mean Shane Vereen is fragile, too?

Losing Vereen immediately following his breakout game in Buffalo is cruel but then that’s fate all over. Maybe I’m just talking myself into this but as bad news goes, this is about as good as it gets. If I had to choose, I’d rather have Vereen available in November and December than September and October. Then again, if it was my choice he wouldn’t have a broken bone in his wrist in the first place so apparently it’s not my choice.

Now what? Stevan Ridley, who apparently has tiny, tiny hands or LeGarrette Blount, who is the living embodiment of Newton’s first law of motion or Brandon Bolden, who’s been out with a knee or Leon Washington, who was only supposed to return kicks; one of those guys will need to provide some semblance of a running game Thursday night against the Jets.

If Willis McGahee doesn’t sign with the Giants, maybe the Patriots should bring him in. Did George Winn sign with anybody?

It doesn’t get much better at wide receiver. It’s a short week; should the Patriots rest Danny Amendola and get him right for the last fourteen games of the season? New England risks aggravating the groin injury and losing Amendola for – let’s just say – a few weeks if he does play.

There’s no right answer here. No matter what decision is made, remember, cruel fate.

Maybe Aaron Dobson’s hamstring has gotten unstrung. Perhaps Josh Boyce and Zach Sudfeld will be better in Week 2, now that they understand that this shit has gotten really real. Let’s hope Kenbrell Thompkins has sold all his belongings and burned all his clothes. (And that may not be enough.) At minimum have the offensive linemen on the practice squad surveil and protect Julian Edelman 24x7.

Amendola, Bolden, Dobson, Sudfeld and Washington were all listed on the Monday injury report as Limited.

Maybe the defense needs to step up to the challenge and carry this franchise for a few weeks while Tom and the kids clean their rooms, make their beds and fold their clothes.

That could happen.

At least, I hope that could happen.
