Not every movie has a happy ending. I hate those
movies.
They lost to the Dolphins in Miami and with it their
chance to clinch the AFC East and take the #1 seed (if the playoffs started
today) for the AFC playoffs but thanks to the
Steelers going full thug on the Bengals, the Patriots hold the #2 seed (if
the playoffs started today) and the invaluable bye week that goes with it. Concussed
starting LT Nate Solder had to leave the game after taking a shot to the head.
The Dolphins also took advantage of CB Kyle Arrington’s absence. Rookie WRs
Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson didn’t suit up and Josh Boyce left the game
limping. Still, none of these injuries appear to be season ending which at this
point has to be considered a plus. A week off heading into the playoffs would
be just what the doctor ordered. Seriously, I’m pretty sure rest is what a
doctor would order for these various and sundry ailments. Also fluids; plenty
of fluids.
The Patriots could still drop to the #3 spot but
with their Week 17 date with the Bills in Foxborough, they should hold onto the
AFC East. Next Sunday’s game with the Ravens – in Baltimore – is a tough out.
The Ravens don’t exactly like the Patriots. Okay, they hate the Patriots.
Saying this is one of those games where the records don’t matter is an
understatement. Terrell
Suggs has a serial killer
shrine of Tom Brady in his locker. Baltimore’s offense is erratic but
explosive and they still have a Top
5 defense. Did I mention they hate the Patriots? My inner child has already
assumed the fetal position.
So, it isn’t going to be easy but then again,
nobody ever said it would be.
