If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result then, well, I was crazy to want to see the Patriots face the Giants in the Super Bowl, wasn't I?
Ha ha ha ha ha! Yeah! Phew! That was pretty crazy.
Well, one less thing to worry about, I guess.
But enough talk about my mental competence or Super Bowls.
We're on to Houston!
The team, not the city.
Is anyone taking the points and the Texans? I haven't heard that the line has moved either way so I'm guessing nobody is betting on this game. Even if the Patriots did win 27-0 way, way back in September, without Tom Brady or Jimmy Garoppolo, before Dion Lewis returned and before the defense had its midseason makeover; 16 points is going to give even the most avid of gaming enthusiasts a moment's pause.
If we're to believe their public pronouncements, the Patriots aren't treating the Texans like they 16-point underdogs Vegas is dangling before the avid eyes of those easily parted with their money. Brady, Josh McDaniels and Bill Belichick have praised Houston's defense as a unit, front seven menace Jadeveon Clowney, their defensive backs as a group (better than the Broncos!), tackling machine Benardrick McKinney, defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel and linebackers coach Mike Vrabel, as well as head coach Bill O'Brien.
So, you're taking the Texans to cover, right?
No?
I think Bill also mentioned running back Lamar Miller and left tackle Duane Brown, too.
Still not convinced?
Hm.
How about Bill O'Brien's plan to hang around till the 4th quarter (scroll down to the "Previewing Divisional Weekend" unless you fantasize about Aaron Rodger making sweet, sweet love to you in which case, read from the top) and then Brock Osweiler will lead them on a game-winning drive? Brilliant!
Easy to understand why Belichick thinks O'Brien is one of the best coaches in the NFL, isnt it?
Okay, I'm making myself nervous, now. Nobody is giving the Texans a chance. They'd rather take a snowball plus the points in Hell. I know Belichick is using the 2011 loss in the divisional round to the Jets as an object lesson but still… Don't the Texans come out in "nothing to lose" mode or "nobody believed in us" mode or "Hey, the refs are on our side; Goodell doesn't want the Patriots to win this thing" mode? Anything can happen is a single elimination tournament. All it takes is a good team having a bad game at the worst possible moment. Sometimes all it takes is one big play.
What am I saying? Am I really worried about Brock Osweiler beating Tom Brady?
Oh right.
That already happened.
Please gridiron gods; never again.
