I know I
said I was over the whole Brady vs. Manning thing but clearly I’m not.
I’m
rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs to win the AFC East in 2013. This isn’t so
much about Hatin’ on Peyton (yes, yes it is) as it is a reaction to all the
Pigskin Pundits and Bobbleheads punching the Broncos’ ticket to the Super Bowl
before OTA’s were done. Then there was this post on Bleacher Report making the case that 2013 might be
Manning’s greatest season ever.
The “Alex Smith is the best QB in the NFL” chatter is crazy talk but what should we
expect his offensive coordinator to say? Smith certainly provides the Chiefs
with an upgrade at the most important position in football. Before he got hurt
last year, he was certainly the most efficient QB in the league. Though he’s
clearly not the best QB in the NFL, Smith may be the perfect QB for Andy Reid’s
version of the West Coast Offense. Jamaal Charles should move up fantasy draft
boards thanks to both the scheme and the QB. Dwayne Bowe should have his best
season. Overall, the Chiefs have the talent on both sides of the line of scrimmage to compete for the AFC
West. It’s a long shot, okay, but it isn’t totally crazy to think this could
happen.
Is the
KC Comeback a better story than Peyton Manning having the best regular season
of his storied career only to throw junk-punch interception in the playoffs?
Tough call. On the re-write I’d probably have Manning throw what looked like an
almost certain game-winning TD pass only to watch it slip through Wes Welker’s
hands as the Broncos lose the AFC Championship in Foxborough.
Having
Devin McCourty intercept that deflected pass and take it 108 yards the other
way is probably asking too much, isn’t it?
