I guess whoever said this team wasn’t the 2007 Patriots was right. Adios, Jabar. Arrivederci, Donte. Goodbye, goodbye to Rome

Make no mistake. Deion Branch outplayed these guys. He caught everything thrown his way in preseason action.  Still, we’re not thinking Gaffney and Stallworth stay unemployed for long, are we? Miami is going to sign one of these guys. (Gaffney, I think. Is it good to be a former Florida Gator when you’re in Miami?) Jacksonville? (There’s a Donte Stallworth mentoring Justin Blackmon joke in there that’s still filed in the “Too Soon” folder.) St. Louis or Seattle, maybe? The Jets?

More importantly, what did Kerry Taylor do in a previous life? He couldn’t stick at WR with the Vikings and he gets picked up by the Patriots, a team that just cut Jabar Gaffney and Donte Stallworth, leaving them with Wes Welker, Rob Gronkowski, Brandon Lloyd, Aaron Hernandez and Deion Branch as their first five options. And their sixth option is probably whoever is lined up at RB. I guess there are worse gigs than New England Patriots Practice Squad. In that Kerry Taylor still has a job perhaps I should think of him as more lucky than unlucky. Then again, Taylor’s future does ultimately seem to be filled with deputy-walks-on-hard-nails level doom.

Doom never sounded so good.
