A Win is a Win

The Patriots are 2-1-0 and tied for first place in the AFC East. Cue the lamentation of the women.

Okay, New England has been underperforming market predictions over the first 3/16th of the season. The offense is lucky it only has one dick to step on. In a season where the league tipped the balance of power between defensive backs and wide receivers in favor of pass catchers, Patriots wide receivers not named Julian Edelman seem incapable of getting open. How is this even possible? This was supposed to be a return to offensive form with all the wideouts not named Julian Edelman playing their second year in the system. Brady’s problem wasn’t supposed to be finding an open man, it was supposed to be choosing amongst all the open men. And what is up with the offensive line?

Deep breath. Take one with me. Ready? Inhale. Hold. Little longer. Exhale.

For a little perspective, the Packers, Saints, 49ers, Colts, Dolphins and Chiefs are all 1-2-0. All of those teams were projected playoff hopefuls for 2014 by national pigskin pundits and bobbleheads.

I know.

Screw perspective.

I’m sure fans in Green Bay, New Orleans, San Francisco, Indianapolis, Miami and Kansas City are as bewitched, bothered and bewildered as fans in New England. Well, maybe not the faithful in Indy and KC. They both won to improve to 1-2-0. They’ve righted the ship. Everything’s cool now. As for the rest, well, it’s never too early to panic, is it?

As for me, I can only hope for the best. What else is there to do?

Assuming this New England Patriots football team has already peaked flies in the face of recent history. Belichick’s teams have consistently played their best ball after Thanksgiving. Why should I throw away my reason for living through the dark and unforgiving New England winter in mid-September? (Not my only reason for living – love you, honey!) I have to hope at least two maybe three of Shane Vereen, Danny Amendola, Aaron Dobson, Kenbrell Thompkins, Brandon LaFell and Tim Wright start to show up on the stat sheet along with Jules and Gronk.

It’s going to happen.

And while I’m waiting, I’ll try to enjoy this defense. I know it was the Raiders and a rookie QB but this is a good defense and they are fun to watch. Keep your eye on Donta Hightower on passing downs. Always keep your eye on Chandler Jones. And never forget theBig Man.
