The New England Patriots were hard to watch on Sunday. They were horrible and all of its synonyms. They may have set the bar for how pigskin awfulness will be measured in the future.
On the other hand, still a lot of football left to be played so who knows? Maybe we've only reached the thermocline of pigskin ineptitude and there's a whole other level of awfulness just below it.
I know it's a baseball movie but I can't help thinking of Billy Beane's speech about his team at the beginning of the movie:
…there's fifty feet of crap, and then there's us.
That's what it felt like watching the Patriots lose 34-0 to the Saints; like I was buried under fifty feet of crap with 53 guys who apparently aren't very good at football.
And the worst part?
I can't even make fun of the Jets.
